Perry Groves believes that Arsenal should sell Shkodran Mustafi in January, despite the German’s contract expiring at the end of the season anyway.
Mustafi has slipped out of the starting 11 with the arrival of Gabriel and return of Pablo Mari, and while, as football.london reported, Arsenal offered a new contract, he is now expected to leave the club in the summer.
But Groves believes that Arsenal should sell the oft-criticised defender this month, rather than waiting for his contract to expire.
Groves told Transfer Talk on Sky Sports: “The three things that Mikel Arteta needs to do in the January transfer window is; one, add a little bit of creativity. I think Julian Brandt from Dortmund has been mentioned.
“Then two, get rid of the deadwood. The likes of Mustafi, Sokratis and Ozil. That will maybe free up some funds to get some players in.
“And three, he has to keep faith with the younger players. They have come in and they have given the team some heart, desire, some passion.”
