Arsenal are prioritising a move for Real Betis defensive midfielder Guido Rodriguez, according to reports in Spain.
The 26-year-old joined Betis from Mexican side Club America for just €3 million (£2.7m) in January 2020 and has quickly established himself as a key part of their midfield.
Arsenal strengthened their midfield options with the £45 million signing of Thomas Partey in October, but the Ghana international has struggled with injury and has started just 12 Premier League games so far.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal are now targeting a move for Rodriguez this summer and Gunners scouts have been keeping a close eye on the Argentine for several months.
The report claims that Arsenal will ‘push hard’ to sign Rodriguez and are looking to strike a deal at the end of the season.
Rodriguez has an €80m (£69m) release clause in his deal with Betis, while his contract with the Spanish club runs until the summer of 2024.
Speaking last week, Rodriguez admitted that he needed to quickly adapt to European football having only played in Argentina and Mexico before his move to Betis last year.
‘Football today is a lot faster and faster, we train more and more on the physical,’ the midfielder told Estadio Deportivo.
‘Rivals are studied a lot with video analysis. Perhaps more at the start, I was a more thinking player and taking time to decide and solve, but I had to change that and readjust more to how it is played today.
‘If you don’t decide quickly, the opponent eats you. I progressed to be able to be at the height of the highest competitive level.’
