Mikel Arteta sends message to Arsenal board over Martin Odegaard’s future

Mikel Arteta wants to keep Martin Odegaard at Arsenal and has told the board to explore the option of extending his stay in north London.

Arteta has been impressed by the 22-year-old midfielder since his arrival from Real Madrid in January and wants to be able to call on him next season.

Odegaard has enjoyed a fine week in Arsenal colours. He scored a belter against Olympiacos in the Europa League before finding the net in the north London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.

Arteta wants Norway’s captain to stay and, according to the Daily Mail, he has told the club he wants the club to look at a deal. Arsenal chiefs are open to keeping him should finances allow a deal to materialise.

They would be willing to extend his loan for another season and would also consider making his stay permanent.

Talks will be opened with his parent club Real Madrid at the end of this campaign but a deal could be impacted if Arsenal fail to qualify for Europe.

Real Madrid are thought to be willing to sell the midfielder this summer as they look to raise funds for signing either Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland.

Ødegaard Celebrates his Goal against Tottenham

Odegaard has hinted he is keen to extend his stay at the Emirates.

‘I said many times that I have been looking for stability [at the same club], but haven’t found it,’ Odegaard told VG.

‘I think it will be important to find stability. I am very happy at Arsenal, enjoying myself. I like it here. ‘Now my focus is to finish the season then we will see.’
