The Brazilian was handed his marching orders in the dying moments of the first half after accidentally tripping Willian Jose, resulting in a spot-kick that was dispatched by Ruben Neves.
VAR chose to uphold referee Craig Pawson’s decision, meaning that as things stand the 33-year-old will be suspended for the Gunners trip to Aston Villa on Saturday.
However, Mikel Arteta’s side have now signalled their intention to attempt to overturn the dismissal and subsequent ban.
It falls in line with what Arteta claimed his intention would be immediately after the match.
“Well as I’m standing here I would say yes let’s go straight away,” he said in his post-match press conference when asked if Arsenal intended to appeal the decision.
