Chelsea Legend Frank Laboeuf Has Expressed His Dissatisfaction Over Arteta’s Poor Substitutions

‘Sometimes I don’t understand Mikel Arteta’ – Frank Leboeuf baffled by Arsenal boss’ ‘mistake’ in Aston Villa loss.

Frank Leboeuf has been left by baffled by Mikel Arteta’s decision making at times and highlighted his call to take off Alexandre Lacazette for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa as a ‘mistake’. Olle Watkins’ goal after just 74 seconds was enough to condemn the Gunners to defeat at Villa Park. Arsenal enjoyed the majority of the possession but couldn’t convert their dominance of the ball into clear-cut chances, with Dean Smith’s side looking much more threatening on the counter. Aubameyang replaced Lacazette in the 59th minute but the captain barely had a touch on the ball and couldn’t prevent his side from suffering back-to-back losses in the Premier League. And former Chelsea defender and French World Cup winner Leboeuf criticised Arteta’s substitution. ‘Sometimes I don’t understand Arteta,’ he told ESPN FC. ‘They are 1-0 down and substituted on Aubameyang, who is completely in doubt right now, for Lacazette, who can be the real leader of the attack and knows on top of scoring goals, giving assists. I think it was a mistake. ‘I don’t know if Arsenal deserved to lose because they had the possession of the ball. ‘Some actions were interesting but with no finishes whatsoever.’

Leboeuf in his playing days.

The Gunners had begun to turn things around with a good run of results in January following their dismal start to the campaign but Leboeuf questioned whether they could now revert to their early season form. ‘I’m very worried about the future for Arsenal now because we saw them reacting for a month but we saw them struggling for five months,’ he added. ‘Are they back to that state? I don’t know we’re going to see, the next game is going to be crucial.’

The first pictures of Arsenal’s first team squad sporting next season’s away kit have been leaked.

After this season’s, bloodshot eyes shirt, the club are returning to a more traditional yellow and blue combination for 2021/22.

The shade of yellow – ‘pearl citrine’ in adidas parlance – may look a little like custard but the use of the stripped-back cannon badge is a nice touch.

We expect to see similar shots of the home and third kits in due course. The latter is predicted to be blue with a lightning motif inspired by the kits of the mid-nineties.
