Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta insists the club will sit down with Alexandre Lacazette’s representatives this summer to resolve his future.
The Frenchman has rediscovered some of his best form with the Gunners in recent weeks and he scored twice in a 3-3 draw against West Ham before the international break.
Lacazette has 13 goals to his name this term – just one behind top scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
However, he will have just one year remaining on his deal by the end of the season and his contract situation has alerted the likes of Atletico Madrid, who are keen on signing the Frenchman on the cheap.
But Arteta has suggested Lacazette will be offered a new deal – once the season finishes.
‘Up to now I just want players focused and only focused on performing and getting the best out of them for the team.’
I”m always happy when people talk about our players and speculate – that means they’re doing well and getting attention from other clubs,’ said Arteta.
‘The situation with Laca we will address in the summer and speak to him and just propose the future that we want, and that’s it.
Lacazette’s uptick in form has coincided with Arsenal’s mini-revival.
The former Lyon man has not always been a regular starter under Arteta but the Spaniard believes the Frenchman is now doing what is asked of him and he’s reaping the benefits.
‘I think he’s been in really good form for months now. He’s sustaining that level. He’s scoring goals and providing the team with something different as well.’ said Arteta.
‘His work rate has been phenomenal and that’s what we want. We need those types of players hitting the best what we level and we want to have the chance to do that.
‘Over the course of the season we’ve been missing goals and creativity in the final third and we need those players to step in and make the difference for the team.’
