Arsenal fans have decided David Luiz’s perfect replacement

Some Arsenal fans have taken to social media to name the perfect long-term replacement for David Luiz.

The 33-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and talk of a renewal hasn’t been ruled out by Gunners manager Mikel Arteta.

“No, there are still a few months to go on that,” he said after David Luiz’s man-of-the-match display in the goalless draw against Manchester United last weekend. “I all the time talk to him about this kind of thing so we’re in a good position.”

Although, three days later the defender had an evening to forget as he was, somewhat, controversially sent-off in Arsenal’s 2-1 loss at the hands of Wolves.

Adjudged to have tripped Willian Jose in the area, David Luiz was given his marching orders, conceded a penalty – and for some supporters – the time has come to start looking for his replacement.

Gabriel Magalhaes came on in the second half against Wolves to fill the void vacated by his compatriot as Arteta was forced into a tactical reshuffle at Molineux Stadium.

That honour falls to William Saliba who is spending the remainder of the season on loan in Ligue 1 with Nice and played 90 minutes in their 2-1 loss against Monaco on Wednesday night.

Even though the teenager was on the losing side, it would appear that fans saw enough to suggest that he will be ready to finally make his mark for the Gunners next season.

Just In: New pictures of Arsenal’s 2021/22 away kit leaked

The first pictures of Arsenal’s first team squad sporting next season’s away kit have been leaked.

After this season’s, bloodshot eyes shirt, the club are returning to a more traditional yellow and blue combination for 2021/22.

The shade of yellow – ‘pearl citrine’ in adidas parlance – may look a little like custard but the use of the stripped-back cannon badge is a nice touch.

We expect to see similar shots of the home and third kits in due course. The latter is predicted to be blue with a lightning motif inspired by the kits of the mid-nineties.
